Flu in mexico kills 150 people
April 28, 2009
A new virus has killed up to 149 people in Mexico and the World Health Organization moved closer to declaring it the first flu pandemic in 40 years as more people were infected in the United States and Europe.
The WHO raised its pandemic alert level for the swine flu virus to phase 4, indicating a significantly increased risk of a pandemic, a global outbreak of a serious disease.
The last such outbreak, a “Hong Kong” flu pandemic in 1968, killed about 1 million people.
8×10 Tasveer Movie Review
April 5, 2009
Akshay Kumar, Ayesha Takia, Jaaved Jafferi, Sharmila Tagore, Benjamin Gilani, Girish Karnad, Rushad Rana, Anant Mahadevan, Uttara Baokar
Director: Nagesh Kukunoor
In his latest, Nagesh Kukunoor dumps earthly pleasures for supernatural hi-jinks, by making his hero capable of seeing the third dimension: Akshay stares deeply at photographs and zip, zap, zoom, he’s back at the time the pictures were taken. Mumbo-jumbo or Ripley’s Believe It Or Not?
Canada-based Jai (Akshay), protector of grizzlies, loves his girl-friend Sheela (Ayesha) and hates his dad’s (Benjamin) big business interests. And then one day the latter pops it, in the middle of an ocean, on a pristine-white yatch, surrounded by wife (Sharmila), and cronies (Girish, Anant, Rushad). Accident or murder?
Kukunoor uses the lush green of the Canadian countryside to give us one of the most picturesque films we’ve seen in a while. His story is interesting too, though you get the niggling feeling that it depends, for its tone, a tad too heavily on sundry Hollywood thrillers: it’s got a live-in couple (Akki kneels on the rumpled bed and asks if Ayesha will marry him; the latter clasps her French-manicured hands, and nods, eyes brimming over), a mom who wears well-tailored pants and jackets, a weirdo sleuth (Jaaved) who suffers from an obsessive compulsive disorder, and a colourful psychic (Uttara) who reads cards.

Though it was in Rajini’s mind, the project got shape when one of his fans, Karthik asked him whether he will do this in memory of his parents during the discussion in Chennai last December. Immediately, he said yes for the project.
Wanted a salman khan movie
February 3, 2009
Insiders who have heard the track just couldn’t stop raving about it. “Everything about the song is great. It has around 101 different sounds, all of which are selectively handpicked by Salman himself. Even though there is a feel of pain in the song, the rhythm of the song has been recorded at a whopping 140 bpm (beats per minute). The song has a very modern feel to it. It’s definitely a song to watch out for!” says a unit source. Salman seems to be most “wanted” in the music scene as well.
Wanted, produced by Boney Kapoor, has Salman playing the role of an undercover cop posing as a goon who is out to destroy a don’s empire. The film is being helmed by Prabhudeva.

Ranbir backs out of Iifa performance
Ranbir Kapoor, who was to perform at the International Indian Film Academy (Iifa) Awards in June, has now backed out of the show.
Sources claim, “Ranbir had given a verbal commitment a few months ago that he would be performing to his hit songs from Saawariya and Bachna Ae Haseeno at the Iifa night. It was going to be his first-ever awards show performance but he has backed out now.”
Ranbir apparently backed out because he did not want to reveal his new look for his forthcoming film with Yash Raj being directed by Shimit Amin. “Ranbir has a bearded-look for this film Rocket Singh — India’s Best Salesman and he doesn’t want people to see it too soon and kill the curiosity surrounding the film,” revealed a source.
Team Effort brings victory
January 23, 2009
Preity Zinta’s King XI Punjab is on a roll after winning two back-to-back matches and the actress is elated about her team’s tremendous performance. A close friend of Preity reveals, “Preity always feels that winning is a team effort and she is very proud of her team for having done just that. She’s so proud that they came back and made a strong statement to all the other teams in the Indian Premiere League.” Preity had earlier said that she is so proud to own a team that strongly believes in the spirit of true sportsmanship.
“She has been the backbone of her team and has given her constant support. She wants to be the team’s encouraging force and cheer them on for all their hard work,” says her friend.
The actress had been saying that it would be more challenging for her team to overcome greater difficulties just so the success “could be sweeter”. Preity has been receiving tons of mail from her fans wishing her luck and congratulating her.
